Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)
DFGs are a key national programme ensuring that vulnerable people can continue to live independently at home. The national programme, funded by the Department of Health, is £394 - half of which is delivered by local Home improvement agencies (HIAs).
The Department for Communities and Local Goverment has included within the new contract a requirement for Foundations to support delivery and improve customer service across the sector. In response Foundations have appointed a DFG Transformation Lead to support agencies and commissioners to improve DFG delivery.
As part of this new service we offer free DFG audits, major DFG reviews and will be sharing good practice through the website, regional meetings and one to one sessions.
DFGs are now part of the Better Care Fund and we are interested in how the funding is being distributed to local Housing Authorities and what monitoring arrangements have been put in place. So please send us your feedback on this and other issues. We are also in discussion with the Department of Health about what monitoring arrangements would be useful to provide evidence to support continuation of the funding both on Performance and Outcome monitoring.
We are of course interested in what initiatives you are participating in locally to measure performance so please let us know so we can share with others and help inform a national standard.
DFGs need to be seen within the context of the wider need for adaptations and it is therefore crucial that agencies develop services for the wider population who are able to fund their own adaptation but need the expertise and support of agencies to ensure good quality and appropriate work.
